Distinctive Dentistry
Bend, Oregon

Project Description
Ascent Architecture & Interiors provided architecture and interior design for the new location of Dr. Kelly Mingus’ Distinctive Dentistry. Our design helped refined the building’s layout to maximize flow and space use while ensuring compliance with building code requirements. As part of our comprehensive code review, we determined that, due to the space’s occupancy type, building code required an elevator for second-floor access. When the city building department raised concerns about the building having too few fire sprinklers, our code review resulted in an accepted interpretation that ensured the building met safety requirements while minimizing the impact on our client. Finally, to take advantage of the mountain views and wrap-around deck, we oriented the second-floor waiting room with access to the upstairs deck, so patients can fully enjoy the scenery.

Space Layout
Optimizing the clinic’s layout included coordination of treatment rooms with waiting areas, conference rooms, and even a patient relaxation room. Additionally, windows in every treatment room meet the client’s desire to have visual access to the outdoors for every patient.
Exterior
By reworking the existing front gable, we incorporated the new elevator into the building façade rather than simply tacking the elevator shaft onto the front of the building.

Interior Design
We designed the clinic’s interior spaces to help the client brand his business and provide a tranquil atmosphere for patients and staff.
