Project Description

Madras Vision Source is a nearly 50-year-old business located along the Highway 26 corridor in downtown Madras, facing the heavily trafficked road. The owner recognized the potential of the storefront façade and hired Ascent Architecture & Interiors to design a significant interior and exterior remodel of her optometry business space. For the exterior, we selected durable, low-maintenance, and versatile materials like fiber cement lap siding and stone veneer. These materials offer a sense of timelessness and permanence as they can weather the climate and outlast varying trends and styles. Warm cedar siding by the main entrance creates a welcoming and approachable feeling and modern accent lighting adds visual interest. As for the interiors, we selected a contemporary color palette, wall coverings, lighting, and reception desk to give the eye care clinic a fresh, clean, modern look.

Energy Efficiency & Natural Light

Madras Vision Source’s west-facing windows receive the most sunlight and provided an opportunity for some budget-friendly energy efficiency improvements. We retrofitted the windows with a reflective film that prevents solar gain, keeping the interiors cool and comfortable. Window films can help reduce utility costs associated with heating and cooling without having to replace the windows or block the view.

To allow an abundance of natural light into the space, we incorporated a high-performance storefront system with the storefront doors opening into the lobby.
